Do PhD for the right reasons
Ponder on these questions in general:
Do you enjoy reading? Do new ideas excite you? Do you enjoy explaining? Do you have a pleasant feeling when you guide a student? Do you enjoy being with one idea for some time?
If majority of answers to above questions are yes, you have it in you to enjoy the PhD process.
Wrong reasons to do PhD:
PhD Stipend / I don’t like my current job or boss / I am getting bored / My prospective guide wants me to do
Signs that you are not ready for PhD: Following questions will come up in your mind:
1. What is more important – topic or guide?
2. Will it be a good choice to pursue PhD on a topic my guide is advising me?
3. Can I get someone to write research proposal for me?
4. Can I get someone to write my PhD Thesis for me?
5. What is the average duration of PhD completion?
6. I dont know exactly which area, I should choose. Which is the area that is more in "demand" these days?
In India, if anybody thought that PhD is for money earning then it is wrong. In terms of money earning, PhD is just wastage of time. In the same effort you can do some other course which will help to boost your carrier. Here in India there is lot of difference, an MD doctor normally take RS 500 for 5 minute consultation, but after PhD nobody is ready to give you Rs 2000 for whole day.
